Do you obsess?

Three quotes for the coming week that are reminders for us all. No matter what you are working on, where you are going, or what you are planning to do, may these three quotes help you. Practice time is precious and productive. Simplify tasks and accept that less can be more. Refocus but don’t obsess. This photo should have been a video so you can hear the pouring rain accompanied by flashes of lightning with drum-roll thunder….surrounded by live oaks under a metal canopy. See how we keep...

First Steps baby's foot Hope for tough times

What have you been up to this week? Are you stalled or ready to take first steps? I am making progress in some areas of my life and learning how to take a break in others. Often, time away from the task at hand provides just the right mindset to get back to it and bring meaning into motion Come out to the Ponds in Summerville this Friday, June 26, from 5 to 8 PM for food, vendors of all kinds, kids’ fun, music, and more. Stop by and say hello and/or purchase a book for yourself or a friend. I...

Thinking about cycles has shifted my perspective. Ravenel Bridge from the pedestrian path. Do you shift with a fight or with the ease of a smile? Sometimes, I can be the go-with-the-flow woman. Sometimes, I can be the no-way-not-doing-this woman. What about you? Thank you for trying my poll last week even with a typo in the most clicked response. You all are the best encouragers! By the time I saw the error, the email was sent too far to correct. Accepting my mistakes is still hard for me....

Trees in sunlight offer questions to ponder

What do you have? What do you need? What do you want? Is it time to value or lo let loose? Thinking about what you must do, what you should do, and what you could do can be a daunting task. I am always somewhere between those three options. When I focus on what I could do more than what I must do, I can allow myself room to dream, to be a beginner, and to try something different. What about you? How are you managing your time and holding on to hope? You matter. Much gratitude, Cindy You...

A small butterfly rests on a person's finger.

Do you ever feel like what is the point of starting something if you can’t finish it? Are you focused on the big, enormous outcome instead of the little progress? Taking a bite of the elephant is the only way to make progress. I have been pleasantly surprised lately to the point of celebrating the small steps I can make. I have also realized that time can be a friend instead of a robber and enemy. This week has been consistent for me with my revision and marketing focus. I now have a writing...

Eye detail on post prose and plot

The life of a writer is filled with constant stories knocking at the door to be awakened, justified, and heard. They are not all good. They are not all wanted. They are all there nonetheless. How are you doing with the story of you? Are you deep in the details of moving from point A to point Z? Are you making time to simply be still? Here are a few examples of my two-sentence attempts from the first ten scenes of fiction book # two: The way of water destroys and nourishes in equal measure. A...

Listen to hear statue with ear on brick wall

How well do you think you listen? How well do you hear? What is the difference between the two? No, I’m not trying to sell you hearing aids or get you to think about having your hearing checked. I am trying to ponder how well I do with listening to what is spoken, and how well I hear what people say. Any progress made is cause for celebration. We all have to start in order to progress. Is it time? Are there any homeschool families that you know? I am putting together a workbook packet for my...

Balance what you need more of and less of

What do you need? This question causes me to stammer and respond, “I’m good.” When I can sit with the question, I usually can come up with something I need more of and something I need less of. The key is to find a way to balance both. I am working on revision and editing in much the same frame of mind. Where do I over-tell, and where am I leaving out much-needed information? Where am I speaking for the characters when they need to speak for themselves? Where do I describe in too much detail...
